Georgia Children’s Cabinet Visits Junior Achievement Discovery Center for May Youth Employment Month

May 21, 2014

First Lady Deal and the Georgia Children’s Cabinet visited the Junior Achievement Discovery Center in the World Congress Center to celebrate the Cabinet’s May Youth Employment Month. Youth Employment Month supports programs that prepare Georgia’s youth for the workforce from summer jobs, CPR training, and volunteering. The Junior Achievement Discovery Center is a special program that is a financial literacy and work readiness education program that partners with Georgia businesses to provide 6th through 8th grade students a simulated work experience to learn about finances and careers. The centers are designed as interactive marketplaces representative of the local business community, including financial services, media, telecommunications, utilities, manufacturing and more. The students work together representing their respective industry with budgets and duties to reach certain financial goals for the day. It was wonderful observing these kids work together at their jobs creating a productive community and workplace!
