The Governor’s Office for Children and Families is pleased to announce twenty seven (27) new grant awards through the Prevention and Family Support Division. The grant awards totaled $1,473,716 and will be used to serve over 3,221 families across Georgia.
First Steps Georgia Grant Program Awards:
The Governor’s Office for Children and Families announced thirteen (13) First Steps Georgia Grant Awards on September 6, 2013. First Steps Georgia provides expectant parents and families with children ages birth to five 1) current information on topics of interest and relevance to the family; 2) information on community resources relevant to the family; and 3) services to strengthen the protective factor of concrete connections to promote maternal and infant health and well-being. The grant awards totaled $126,000 and will be used to serve over 2,000 families across Georgia.

Child Abuse and Neglect Grant Programs, Continuation Awards:
The Governor’s Office for Children and Families announced two (2) Child Abuse and Neglect Continuation Grant Programs on September 16th, 2013. The grants provide services such as home-based and center–based parent education; information and referral services; parent-child activities and family and child developmental assessments to vulnerable families of young children ages 0-5, including teen parents. The grant awards totaled $202,011 and will be used to serve over 116 families across Georgia.

Child Abuse and Neglect Grant Programs, First Time Funding Awards:
The Governor’s Office for Children and Families announced twelve (12) Child Abuse and Neglect First-
Time Funded Grants on September 19th, 2013. The grants provide parent education, support, and parent training for families with elementary and middle school-aged children using the national program models of Triple P and the Incredible Years. The grant awards totaled $1,145,705 and will be used to serve over 1,105 families across Georgia.
