Governor and First Lady Deal visited Strong4Life Camp in Winder, Georgia in support of the SHAPE initiative which promotes childhood fitness and wellness amongst Georgia’s youth. Strong4Life Camp, sponsored by Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA), is held at Camp Twin Lakes and serves to prevent and decrease the rate of childhood obesity in Georgia’s children. Gov. Deal and Mrs. Deal toured the camp grounds and applauded the use of unique, interactive camp activities aimed to educate children about proper nutrition and exercise. They observed campers showcasing their newly found health education through activities like “snack-offs” where they competed for the title of the best tasting healthy snack (judged by CHOA CEO Donna Hyland and Governor’s Office for Children and Families Executive Director Katie Jo Ballard), humorous skits demonstrating how to order healthily from restaurants, and group chants which asserted their confidence in maintaining a healthy, balanced lifestyle.
Strong4Life Camp is free to all children with an eligible Body Mass Index. Please consult with your physician to determine eligibility. For more information on the Strong4Life Camp and helping children grow healthy and strong, visit http://www.strong4life.com/.
