May is Teen Pregnancy Prevention Month!
Join GOCF in celebrating teen pregnancy prevention efforts and events in the month of May
The Governor’s Office for Children and Families promotes efforts to end teenage pregnancy for Georgia’s youth by celebrating the 12th annual National Teen Pregnancy Prevention month. The state of Georgia is ranked 13th in country for the highest teen birthrate, however with efforts of the partners across the state, there has been an 8% decline in teenage pregnancy. According to data from the Centers for Disease Control’s National Center for Health Statistics, the national teen pregnancy has hit a 40 year low, with a 42% decline since the teen pregnancy rate peaked in 1990. While it is both a state and national success to see such declines, GOCF works to provide continual support and resources to communities in Georgia to prevent teenage pregnancy.
GOCF currently supports teen pregnancy prevention by funding 23 local communities with Abstinence Education grants. These grant programs are used to promote healthy and meaningful messages about teen sexual abstinence by providing abstinence education and youth development programming, training opportunities, conferences, community events and educational resources to communities.
GOCF will be supporting Teen Pregnancy Prevention Month by providing several opportunities and resources for the communities in Georgia to use to engage in conversation as to how to prevent teen pregnancy. The hope is that communities use these resources and opportunities to communicate with families and teens around the importance of remaining abstinent until marriage as the only proven way to prevent teen pregnancy. GOCF will be providing communities with resources, handouts, and tools to be used to promote Teen Pregnancy Prevention month. These resources will be available on a first come, first served basis. GOCF will accept orders throughout the month of May and will fill orders and send out as soon as possible to assist local communities with Teen Pregnancy Prevention events and efforts. Please click here for the attached order form to fill out a request for the type and quantity of materials requested. The cost is free. Please contact Abby Fuhlendorf at email@example.com with any questions.
