we can choose.
Organizations that work with the youth and families involved with Georgia's juvenile justice system require ongoing support to meet the needs of this sometimes challenging population. Guided by federal law as directed by the U.S. Department of Justice, GOCF employs the Justice Division to provide funding for programs that demonstrate a clear commitment to the principles of restorative justice for youth.
View enabling legislation - O.C.A.G.A § 49-5-130 to 132 - that describes the duties and responsibilities of GOCF's Juvenile Justice Division to reduce the institutionalization of youth in the juvenile justice system and provide assistance in establishing statewide goals and standards in the system.
Division Goals
- Provide state and federal funds to implement prevention and intervention strategies for the purpose of meeting the needs of children and families involved in Georgia's juvenile justice system.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state laws concerning juvenile detention and confinement in order to secure funding for the state's juvenile crime reduction efforts.
Division Staff
- Serve as stewards of federal Juvenile Justice funds
- Develop, manage, and monitor Georgia's statewide Juvenile Justice Plan
- Serve as statewide experts on Juvenile Justice & Criminal Justice Issues
